Meet Our Founder & Clinical Director

Dr. April Hawkins, DNP, MSN, CRNP, FNP-C

Dr. April Hawkins is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with 16 years of healthcare experience, including 13 years of clinical nursing experience. She has cared for patients across a variety of clinical settings and has been affiliated with several leading hospitals throughout the Birmingham area, including the University of Alabama. Her background includes post-surgical nursing, step-down care, intensive care, a broad range of specialty settings, and advanced practice nursing. Her passion has always been centered around one thing: caring for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.


Hawkins Surgical Recovery was created to provide continuity of care through private, professional post-operative clinical support delivered in patients' homes. Whether supporting recovery after orthopedic procedures, cosmetic surgery, women's surgeries, or other outpatient procedures, her goal is to help clients feel safe, supported, and confident during recovery. Every client experience is designed to feel warm, elevated, discreet, and attentive, while maintaining the highest standards of professional nursing care.
